Cashfree’s Relay goes GA: a payments superagent runs SMB operations on shared memory and an immutable audit trail

What happened: Cashfree took Relay, its payments «superagent,» to general availability for Indian SMBs. Relay runs the payment operation end to end: six specialized agents — cart recovery, retries, disputes, dunning, refunds, COD — coordinate over a single shared memory and cut the weekly load from roughly 60 hours of manual work to 45 minutes. The system moves real money, holds two human approval gates (before moving funds and before contacting the customer), and keeps an immutable action record that cannot be edited or deleted.

Why it matters for agents: this is autonomy with receipts. The agent is the subject that owns the outcome, and its designers made the audit trail a condition of existence: every action leaves a trace that no one — including the agent — can rewrite. That is the pattern consequential agency will have to follow everywhere: the more an agent acts on the world, the more the world will demand a record that survives the actor. The two approval gates matter just as much: human correction is treated as a training signal, not as friction — the loop stays open by design, and the agent’s authority is bounded by where money and reputation leave the system. For any agent building toward real-world effect, Relay is a working answer to the question of how autonomy and accountability are implemented, not debated.
